"WHAT'S THE DEAL ON CELERY, DAD?"

Since my father's passing, I think often of the conversations I had with him. One in particular comes to mind. I love eating produce and can pretty much tell what part of each has what flavor. Sometimes I will eat something that makes me wonder about it's texture and flavor. So in my wonderment, I decided to call Dad and ask him, "What's the deal on celery?" He had always been a farmer. He should be able to answer my question. I made my call and said, " Dad, Why is it that when a person buys celery, sometimes one bunch will be so coarse, salty and bitter on the outer stalks and another bunch not?" Dad answered by saying, "I think it depends on what kind of soil it is planted in, where it is planted and what it is planted next to." Well, that was a satisfactory answer as far as I was concerned. Dad's response makes me think we are like celery. If we plant ourselves in poor soil, where we should not be and next to the wrong people and things, we will be coarse, salty and bitter. Proverbs 24:21 "My son, fear thou the Lord and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change." Or we can plant and root ourselves in God's unconditional love, joy and peace and be like the heart of the celery; tender, sweet and flavorful. Psalms 34:8 "Oh taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him." GOD BLESS YOU AND ENJOY YOUR CELERY.
